Eve Online
56My Game
Eve Online. A Massive Multiplayer Online Game. It has it's own universe.
What you do: Create a character to pilot a space ship.
What can you do in game: Mining, Agent Missions, Contracts, You name it, and I bet it's out there.
Why Eve? Well because it's pretty sweet. You fly a space ship through space blowing things up possibly, transporting things, mining, and its international, so basically there are about some odd hundred thousand players playing.
Character Selection
Choosing a character can be kind of difficult. There are Four major races: Amarr, Caldari, Gallente, and Minmatar. And each of these races have three seperate bloodlines within them.
Amarr - Is the largest of the empires in the EVE universe. 40% of solar systems are inhabited by the Amarr. (http://www.eveonline.com/races/amarr.asp) Bloodlines include: Amarr, Ni-Kunni, Khanid.
Caldari - A state built on corporate capitalism, the Caldari-state is run by a few mega-corporations which divides the states between them, controlling and ruiling every aspect of society. (http://www.eveonline.com/races/Caldari.asp) Bloodlines Include: Deteis, Civire, Achura.
Gallente - The Gallenteans. Self-righteous, meddling, pompous and tiresome, or virile liberalists and defenders of the free world. Love them or hate them, you simply can't ignore them. (http://www.eveonline.com/races/gallente.asp) Bloodlines Include: Gallente, Intaki, Jin-Mei.
Minmatar - A tough, no-nonsense race, the Minmatars are a determined and independent people. Their home planet of Matar is a natural paradise, although centuries of abuse have taken much from its beauty. (http://www.eveonline.com/races/minmatar.asp) Bloodlines Include: Brutor, Vherokior, Sebiestor.

Learning Skills
The best way to start a new character is to train all of the learning skills to level 5. What this does is shorten the length of time it would normally take to train skills. It works by adding an attribute point to the attribute associated with the skill.
Ex. Spatial Awareness adds to Perception, Iron Will adds to Willpower, Instant Recall adds to Memory, Empathy adds to Charisma, and Analytical mind adds to Intelligence.
Each of these skills add one point to their associated attribute.
Clarity, Focus, Logic, Pressence, and Eidict Memory are Advanced skills. They add an additional point to the attributes as well.
These are important to train on a character you plan to use as a main character. It will help lower training time on other skills.
If you are creating a secondary character, but are only using them for a specific thing such as mining or hauling, then it is best to just train the skills you need to use the character for.
ISK
You need isk to buy things in game. You'll see loads of adds saying that they can sell you isk for money. If you want to play the game and not have a chance of never being allowed back, or having your account disabled, or something to that effect. Don't do it. That's isk generated in game that shouldn't be there to begin with. It causes bugs in the system and can cause potential problems.
Basically it's not good for the game and it's not good for your wallet in real life.
There are several ways to make isk. Some of which being Agent Missions, Mining, Contracts, and Bounties on NPC Pirates (also called rats) and actual Players.
To take down the Players though, you need to be good at PvP.
Mining
Mining is one of the easiest ways to make isk. And it keeps the isk coming in between the other objectives you have in the game.
A good starting point for me was to buy secure containers that you can anchor in asteriod belts. The skill needed for doing this is called Anchoring. It's useful because, if you're aren't on too much then you don't have much time to do things.
So what I did was take a few different sized containers (the best to use are Large and Giant.) Put them in different asteroid belts I wanted to mine in. Fitted a frigate with Mining lasers (skill for this is Mining.) And filled the containers.
Once the containers were full I would take an industrian ship Iteron class. (skill required is Gallente Industrial.) You can also pick an industrial from your own race. (skills may include Gallente, Amarr, Caldari, or Minmatar Industrial depending on what race you are.)
Another skill that may be required or useful is Industry.
If you plan to mine some of the things to remember is the ore. Depending on the ore depends on what materials you receive once you refine it. The most common ores found are Kernite, Plageoclase, Scordite, Veldspar, Pyroxeres, and Omber. The best thing I have found to mine has been Kernite.
Useful skills for mining include: Refining, Mining, Industry, Mining Barge, Kernite/Plageoclase/Scordite/Veldspar/Pyroxeres/Omber Processing, and Mining Drone.
As long as you are mining you will have a steady income of ISK. To keep the isk coming in what you need to do is try to get into first a Mining Barge (ex. Retriever) and later into something like an exhumer (ex. Hulk)

Pirates
These things will appear in any asteroid belt at any time. The smaller ones usually aren't too hard to kill the most bounties you will see on these will be around 11,000 ISK. They randomly appear in asteroid belts. So if you're mining you want to be sure to be in a group, if you don't have any defensive equipment, so that you will be able to be defended; have drones ready, so that you can deploy them and they can take care of them; or have a turret, perferred, or rocket launcher ready to go on the ship you are using.
Now there are bigger rats that have quite larger boundies (extending into 700,000 ISK) if you are a new player and are alone, and don't have great skills. Don't try it, leave them alone.
Some agent missions also have pirates in them.
Agent Missions
Agent Missions pay out ISK and sometimes items.
To begin with agent missions you have to find a level I agent in a corporation you would like to work with. The more missions you do for this agent, the higher your standing with the agent and the corporation that agent works with become. The higher the standing the more agents become available to you. And throughout doing missions for this agent you may receive an offer from a storyline agent as well.
The rewards for missions include ISK and random items. Sometimes you will receive items solely replated to the story line you are playing or sometimes the item is a reward that you can use at any where at any time.
The higher level missions you go (level II, level III, etc.) the bigger the payout.
Contracts
Contracting for corporations, players, and alliances are all avalable under the contract menu. Some contracts auction items and some need someone to haul things for them. You are able to purchase and sell just about anything you would like through contracting.
Players are even capable of assigning contracts to other players. It's a great way to earn isk. But sometimes the contracts need collateral, so you'll need to view all of the details before you accept the contract.
